Greenfield faces many challenges in the next 20 years as the population center of Minneapolis continues to spread outward. For over 20 years we have had a robust sewer and water system in our downtown area near Rockford, that has been under utilized, and subsidised by all residents. Now, our sewer treatment plant needs major repairs or replacement. We have conducted a study (unfortuantely pretty much mandatory these days) that came to the same conclusion we thought it would. The most inexpensive path forward would be to pursue joining with Rockford in some way to have 1 sewer treatment facility treat sewer from both cities. We are pursuing this, and will continue to do so until there is good evidence that there is a better solution. My goal is the lowest amount of general property tax dollars be spent on keeping the sewer flowing, and that its operation, and maintenace be fully funded by those connected to it. With some hard work, we can partner with Rockford and craft a "win-win-win" solution for Rockford, Greenfield, and our residents and property owners in the area serviced by our sewer system. No one has to lose.
